When touching natural fabrics we can more or less tell what it is made of and how natural it is. They feel pleasant and warm to the touch and pleasant to wear. But there is so much more to natural fibres than most of us realise.
For this summer season we have tried hard to bring you natural fabrics like linen, cotton and silk to give extra comfort and style to your wardrobe.
Linen is our favourite this season as Sahara, Flax, McVerdi and Shepard’s have chosen it as the main fabric in their collections. Linen absorbs and evaporates moisture quickly and good airflow through a more open weave means it does not cling to the body. Do consider thickness of the linen. The thinner and lighter it is , the quicker it will soften up and follow your body shape. It has great heat conductivity which improves cooling and makes a linen dress or tunic perfect for holidays abroad or a hot summer day.
Linen is known for creasing but combined with silk or wool this is less so. Adding silk prevents creasing, provides some stretch, shine and a good absorption of colour. Our brand Grizas uses only natural fibres including many natural blends.
Cotton is the popular fabric in our ranges this summer. Seasalt, Masai, Lily& Me use cotton widely. It is a natural fibre which can be woven in so many ways creating different textures, thickness or patterns. Cotton is non-allergenic and perfect to wear close to the skin. Its unique fibre structure allows the fabric to breathe – keeping the body cool in summer and warm in winter. Sharing many of the features of linen cotton is softer, has more stretch and feels warmer to touch.
Cotton garments are perfect for layering and body-hugging clothing. Cotton tops, shirt & cardigans are perfect for a city break. It’s a great canvas for bold bright prints for brands like SeaSalt – the easiest fabric to dye and print with high absorbency. It’s no surprise cotton is the most common natural fabric.
Some of our brands like Cut Loose or Masai mix cotton and linen to create beautiful pieces with the best qualities of both fabrics.
Silk can be used in summer or winter clothing as it is breathable and a natural temperature regulator – helping the body to retain heat in cold weather and expel excess heat in warm weather. Its’ extremely smooth and soft texture is perfect for sensitive skin and helping to maintain moisture balance. Silk combines beautifully with other natural fibres enhancing the features of the fabric. Being very elastic it resists creasing and with wool helps knitwear keep its original shape. It is easy to dye and its’ natural shine brings elegance and touch of luxury to your wardrobe. Sahara and Grizas often introduce some silk into their fabric.
Wear natural this summer!
