This season we have the arrival of a fantastic new brand; Anokhi. This Indian brand based on a farm just outside the Pink City of Jaipur feature the most beautiful prints. They still use the traditional Batik printing method with hand blocks carved from wood used to make their intricate patterns.
Anokhi’s hand block printing all happens on their beautiful farm. Anokhi pride themselves on looking after their workers, allowing them space and comfort whilst they work, something not commonly done in India. They are paid fairly and Anokhi strive to ensure all their employees have long term, secure work and income.
Chris and Nick, from Katie Kerr, have both visited the Anokhi estate. They were both pleasantly surprised by how well the company functioned and with the harmonious atmosphere. They both recall that the workers lunch – a communal al fresco setting where they were all supplied with a great meal often using food grown on the farm. They also have a very environmentally friendly air conditioning system which uses cool water and fresh air to ensure the workers are comfortable in the workshop.
Overall, Anokhi is a wonderful, ethical brand which we think is reflected in their clothes. Do take a look at the gorgeous pieces we have from them this year – tunics and dresses. All the items are made from the most stunningly light cotton, and are an absolute joy to wear. A fantastic option for holiday clothing and a lovely way to add colour and uniqueness to your wardrobe at home.
