With only a few days left before the spring calendar and we are posting our last in an ocassional series of winter pursuits. Spring should be here soon but if winter is just too long for you then why not head off on a winter break….
Other winter pursuits are all exhausted. Everything is sorted, planted, learnt and there is just no more energy or inspiration …Maybe its time to pack your bags with colourful summer clothes and set off to look for the sun!
Travelling in winter is a great way to recharge, warm up, get some real tan, new experiences, a change of surroundings and just escape winter misery….
If you are not a fan of boiling heat and days spent on the beach with a good book is not your cup of tea, city breaks to Southern Europe enjoying a different culture, cuisine or landscapes is a great alternative. The towns and cities feel so different in late winter and early spring. People are not yet tired of tourists, spring comes earlier, the weather is pleasantly warm and you can sight-see so much more. City breaks don’t have to be long, just couple of days in a mid week is the best time to see the real everyday life as locals are more talkative, the prices are true and everyone just simply gets on with everyday routine. It is active and relaxing at the same time as you can blend in and just enjoy the day . Places like Barcelona, Paris,Venice or Florence have so much character, history and charm. Wondering through old town streets and little cafes with local people rushing to work or socialising. It brings new perspectives and ideas about our own way of life.
If you do enjoy real summer heat and a real tan heading south is the solution. Something like Canary Islands will be a perfect escape. Beautiful weather even in mid winter, great food and the pace of life to boost your energy and mood for the rest of the year. All those beautiful outfits that were hidden deep in the wardrobe will get a good outing and the activities that you wouldn’t dare attempt back home even in mid summer (a dip in the sea in the morning….) fast become a daily routine. No rush, no stress, just a nice soak in the sun enjoying company of your family or friends..
It is also the best time to visit relatives or friends who live abroad as it is after winter holiday season and still quite a while until the summer rush. Maybe you have an aunt living in Ibiza 🙂 or have been planning to travel with friends for a while. Spontaneous trips , however, are the best as there are no expectations and you simply enjoy the moment.
If you can take a break for a week or only couple of days. Just go for it. The run up to summer will be so much easier. And if the weather here this summer disappoints you will at least have those beautiful memories….
